Last week I was invited to attend the Australian premiere of Once the Musical at Melbourne’s Princess Theatre. Once the Musical features Grammy, Tony, Olivier and Academy Award winning music and in one word, WOW! What a show!
Everything about the performance was fantastic – the talent of the actors/musicians, the set, the songs, the theatre space… It all contributed to a great night out for my husband and I, in the beautiful city of Melbourne.
Featuring a multi-talented cast who sing, act, dance and play their hearts out. Unlike any other show I have experienced, they do it all!
Set in modern day Dublin, Once is the story of a Guy who gave up on his music and his love and the Girl who inspired him to dream again. This exhilarating ‘Guy meets Girl’ musical is performed by an extraordinary cast of actor-musicians who sing, dance and play their hearts out on stage.
Don’t be fooled by its love story plot, the show is filled with cheeky comments and hilarious moments that are sure to satisfy even the harshest musical critic (i.e. my husband – who is now even recommending his ‘virgin musical’ show to his family and mates).
Once is an uplifting show which strikes an unforgettable chord in audiences and speaks to the power of music to connect us all. A show like that only comes around Once.
The characters will capture your heart – each one of them so honest and real that you will feel like you get to know them (or already know them). This authentic musical features the brilliant collection of songs about longing and heartbreak from the original film by Glen Hansard (The Frames) and Markéta Irglová. It has been adapted for the stage by the celebrated Irish playwright and screenwriter, Enda Walsh (Disco Pigs and Hunger) and the award-winning UK theatre director John Tiffany, who also directs the Australian production.
Booking earlier guarantees people can get seats in the stalls where they will have the opportunity to join the cast on stage for a drink before the show and at interval. It is a unique and rare experience, not to be missed!
If you live in Melbourne or are heading to Melbourne, put Once on your must-do-list.
I guarantee you will not be disappointed! Book yourself an early dinner and make a night of it!
