We love sport; we love the outdoors; we love a good bevvie (or 2); and we love a great movie session with the girls. The outdoor Cinema at the ‘G is back in 2017 and we are excited!
Returning this summer on Friday 24 and Saturday 25 February, this super-cool cinema event will allow us to sit back and relax on the hallowed MCG turf and will feature the yet-to-be-released Lion on opening night, and the Tom Hanks blockbuster, Sully on Saturday night.
Gates on both nights will open at 6.30pm, so book your tickets asap, then pack your blanket and a comfy pillow and get to the MCG early to reserve yourself a spot!
Proceeds from the event will go to the Bank of Melbourne Neighbourhood Fund, which is a great initiative supporting local charities and programs that deliver sustainable benefits to Victorian communities.

The MCG is one of Melbourne’s well known landmarks that showcases one of the many aspects of Australian culture. What better way is there to spend an Aussie summer than catching a flick under the starry sky where history was made!

Getting comfy on the turf, with the summer breeze, and watching a brilliant film under a starry Melbourne sky makes Cinema at the ‘G a must this summer!

Summer, stargazing, and an epic film with someone lovely at one of the world’s largest stadiums is the epitome of the ultimate night out. There is no combination of epic things like this on a Friday night, no “Lion” about it.
Bo De Silva

There can’t be a better patch of grass to sit on in Melbourne!

The last fun thing I did would have to be an outing with friends. We saw a movie and caught up afterwards over a coffee! They are my best friends who have “carried” and guided me through my darkest days, and helped me celebrate the brightest ones. They are an essential part of my life and contribute to my mental stability and happiness. I can’t think of a better night out than to celebrate friendship with a good movie at the “G”
Christine Santeusanio
I’m new to Melbourne originally from Boston, and have never been to an outdoor movie. In February I’d be sitting in two feet of snow at home. I’ve been to the MCG once but didn’t quite understand the rules of footy! I’d be delighted to enjoy the show under the stars with a meat pie and drink!
Scott
‘Lion’ in the middle of the best stadium in the world, in the best city in the world, watching an incredible film, there is no where I’d rather be!
Sabrina Chong
I come from Singapore and this is my first trip to Melbourne. My fiancee and I have decided to remain and live in Melbourne and it would be a wonderful way to celebrate this with a fun and romantic night out watching Lion in such an awesome outdoor venue! Thank you <3
Gen
You don’t get much bigger than the ‘G, and adding in a dusky evening and what’s sure to be an inspiring film would make for a memorable Melbourne evening
Melissa Turner
Cinema at the ‘G is one of those uniquely Melbourne experiences that is not only awesome but comes with major bragging rights in the ‘I’m more of a Melburnian than you’ tit for tat in my friend circle
Yuen
My partner and I love summer in Melbourne; rare nights out without the toddler; movies; the outdoors; and the ‘G… All our loves in one ultimate event – what more could one ask for (besides free passes)?

Because I come from Brisbane and the MCG is far superior to the Gabba!

Because I haven’t been back to Australia in seven months and I’d love to take my best friend on a fun girls night out! I haven’t seen her in all that time and since her boyfriend joined the army

Nothing is more Australian than the G and Summer…add them together with a great Aussie Story… can I take a 6 pack?
Jess
A Melbourne story played out on the big screen of a Melbourne icon – yes please!
Johanna
Over the month of February I’ll be having a German exchange student stay with me, and during this time I intend to showcase the highlights of Melbourne. From dawn til dusk I want to show her, every ‘quiche’ brunch spot through to undiscovered backyard band, and I believe a movie night at the G encapsulates almost everything that is Melbourne. To me the surroundings of the iconic MCG illustrate this city’s beautiful architecture, a culture of sport and mateship, which is perfectly paired to the screening of Lion on the lawn further representing the laidback nature of us Aussies and a willingness to transform the ordinary into the unexpected but extraordinary. Showing my exchange this aspect of Melbourne would be a chance to live, breath and experience all the Melbourne represents making it the ultimate night out this summer. The only thing currently missing from this event is a German, an Aussie and a big bag of popcorn!
