On the second day of Winter, a selection of Reebok athletes came togther to create an epic training environment on a Footscray building rooftop, which overlooked our beautiful city. Now I rarely (in fact I never) use the word epic, but I can not think of any other word to describe this workout playground.
Bright-eyed and bushy tailed, I excitedly rocked up to Delta Gym for Reebok Be More Human and was greeted with a gift – a new pair of Reebok tights, sports bra, singlet, hoodie and a pair of Reebok CrossFit Nano Weaves. Boo yeah! I had hit the jackpot and I hadn’t even been introduced to our trainers yet. I felt very privileged to have the opportunity to meet some world class athletes! Rob Forte, who has competed in the CrossFit games for the past six years; Tia-Clair Toomey, who has been crowned the second fittest woman on Earth twice; fitness guru Jenna Douros who is founder of Lift into Life and Nathan Jones, who is a Les Mills ambassador.
As the sun began to poke it’s head out from the horizon, the gorgeous Rachael Finch amped us all up and prepared us for the next hour of sweat. The tunes were cranking and we were ready to rumble!
After managing to get through a ridiculous amount of sit-ups in Jenna’s ab session, (plus a whole lot of other exercises that made my tummy hurt), me a my workout pose moved onto Rob and Tia’s carefully crafted CrossFit workout. Pairing up with a sweat sess buddy, we completed a heap of kettlebell swings, squats, burpees and spent some time on the rower. Rob gave me some tips on how to improve my row (which has never been my strength) and my competitive streak came out trying to beat the boy team next to us.
Feeling somewhat defeated by the boys, we moved on to complete our last workout – Body Attack and Body Combat with Nathan. Within 10 seconds, he had us smiling and laughing – in fact everyone would have thought we were actually enjoying our side steps and tuck jumps!
When the hour was up and so was the sun, we called it a day and celebrated with a delicious omlette and bowl of fruit. It had been a long time since I had done a crack of dawn workout myself, as I am the one usually running them!
But it was a great reminder of amazing you feel when you have accomplished so much, yet your day has barely begun.
