The Ultimate day out in Melbourne

The Ultimate day out in Melbourne - Taking in the sights with Emily Collie and investing in your future self

Do you religiously schedule yourself a date night? Make a point to head out from work to lunch at least once a week? Or like me, take time on the weekend to have the ultimate day out in Melbourne with family and friends, to let fresh air refresh and rejuvenate your soul? Rediscover some iconic sights and hidden gems? For each of these things, your future self thanks you.

When it comes to our health (which should be one of the most important things in life), we sometimes forget about the small things. The moments which play a crucial role in maintaining a balanced life. A key for happiness and wellbeing. For me, it’s soaking up the beautiful city of Melbourne.

These small things, teamed with quality health cover (knowing you have insurance, and therefore likely more choice in the treatment and management of your health in the case of accident or illness), promotes wellbeing and peace of mind. I’ve come to realise that this combo of is one of the first steps to maintaining joy and clarity, a key goal for me moving forward in all aspects of my life.

After all, living in the world’s most liveable city means we have unlimited adventures awaiting us on our very own door step… And all this needs to be enjoyed, as often as possible!

The Ultimate day out in Melbourne

Shopping at Harbour Town - Melbourne Australia

I’m a long-time Bupa health insurance customer and when they asked me to help spread the word about the benefits of having private health cover, I said yes without hesitation. After all, Bupa has made it really easy for me to secure quality health cover for all my family.

Whenever I’ve dealt with Bupa in relation to my health insurance cover, including times when I have been unwell or in a highly stressful situation, they have been incredibly helpful and professional.

Melbourne Star - Observation Wheel

I just love that Bupa has such a wonderful approach to health… About investing in your future self!

Why didn’t I think about this sooner? But as you can see, I put it to the test on the weekend and had the ultimate day out in Melbourne. We headed into Waterfront City (in Docklands) to take our first ride on the Melbourne Star, check out O’Brien Group Arena, enjoy some ice cream, and let the kids have some fun and laughs at Wonderland Junior.

Melbourne Star

We took the 30-minute ride on Melbourne’s big observation wheel, for some extraordinary bird’s-eye views of the city and it’s surrounds. I’m not gunna lie, I was really scared being up so high, it took me a great deal of inner strength and positive vibes to ‘survive’ the journey (my husband and kids were unfazed and loved the whole experience). But as we reached the top of the rotation, the amazing sight overlooking the CDB took hold of my spirit and I was able to relax (a little) and enjoy the experience through the second half of the ride.

The commentary of history and what-to-see throughout the half-hour adventure makes it even more worth while as an iconic Melbourne activity for your to-do-list. A must for locals and visitors if you haven’t already been onboard.

Wonderland Junior

This fun, little amusement park can be found directly under the big wheel. With attractions including the Bouncing Castle, Dodgem Cars, Circus Train, Tea Cups and Twiggy the Talking Tree, Wonderland Junior could keep the kids busy all day long.

It’s situated right next to some great restaurants and cafes, which makes it easy to grab a coffee and watch them laugh and play, or take a break and enjoy some lunch between rides.

O’Brien Group Arena

Tucked behind Harbour Town Shopping Centre is Melbourne’s prestige ice skating rink. This weekend the Arena hosted some of the best ice hockey players from around the country, with their All Stars Weekend. We watched their skills in action through the windows before some more people watching over at the public skaters rink.

Whilst we didn’t actually pull on some skates ourselves, we’ve put it on our list of must-dos for one of our next ultimate days out in Melbourne-town.
