Our road trip along the Great Ocean Road to Lorne last week was amazing. My husband, two-year-old son Jack and myself were invited to enjoy a luxurious and relaxing mid-week stay at the beautiful Ocean House, a Rob Mills designed holiday house on the Great Ocean Road.
For those of you reading who are not already familiar (and in love) with the Great Ocean Road, it is an Australian National Heritage listed 243 kilometres stretch of road along the south-eastern coast of Australia between the Victorian cities of Torquay and Allansford.
It is one of the world’s most scenic coastal drives, home to an array of iconic surf breaks, misty waterfalls and of course the famous 12 Apostles. The region is fast becoming more and more well-known it’s range of fine dining, world-class winemakers, dairy farms and fresh provedores up-and-down the coastline.
In the winter-time, the town of Lorne is a lot quieter than the peak holiday months. I’d highly recommend you visit the beautiful coastal suburb all year round – with each of the seasons boasting unique opportunities for all tourists.
A short walk from the beach, Ocean House Lorne exudes the definition of contemporary chic. I’m talking circular bedrooms, wrap-around terraces, a rooftop deck with open air bath, polished concrete floors and the most stylish, comfortable furniture from cutting edge designers.
Sculpted from concrete, timber and glass amid the eucalypts and decorated to the highest standards with furniture from the architect’s favourite artists and designers, it brings relaxed-luxury to a whole new level.
The five-bedroom beach house is the perfect holiday destination for families, bridal parties, couples or even for a romantic getaway for a truly special occasion.
The floor plan offers complete privacy for guests, with a multi-level living layout which is full of surprises around every corner. Warm in winter and cool in summer, Ocean House is the perfect base for exploring nearby waterfalls or heading down for a fish on the beach.
The rooftop bath is my favourite feature of the house. I’m a bath girl, but this rooftop abode brings a whole new meaning to bathing in style. You have 360 degree views of the beach in front and the the forest behind. I recommend you fill it up with bubbles, grab a wine and sit back, relax and soak up the atmosphere.
Alternatively, recline on the daybeds or enjoy your morning cuppa on the rooftop terrace for an idyllic Lorne luxury getaway.
