My first mistake before arriving at Lux, was asking my boyfriend to pick me up a large takeaway sushi pack. You’d think by now this girl would know that no matter where Melbourne Girl sends her, she will always be fed, pampered and entertained to say the least.
Having just finished running a workplace bootcamp with some teachers out in Williamstown, it was a mad rush to battle the 6pm CBD traffic, pick the boyfie up from the side of the road, whilst attempting a costume change from ‘Fitness Professional’ to ‘Hunger Games Fanatic’. In this fast paced life we lead, who hasn’t had to strip down to their undies during peak hour? Amazed by how coordinated I was changing gears whilst changing tops and taking bites of sushi in between lights (kids don’t try this at home), Jonathan managed to navigate me through the city (‘straight down Victoria Street,’ he said) to Victoria Gardens, Richmond.
After a few flights of stairs and two wrong turns, we arrived at the very lush Lux Cinemas. Greeted and assured we hadn’t missed a thing, the lovely staff took my order for a much needed glass of Pinot Noir. The newly improved lounge area of Lux is very chic and colourful. There is plenty of room to sit and a beautiful bar where you can order a range of drinks and scrumptious bites. After taking a moment to catch our breath, we were then escorted to our seats, front row, first class.
Now I am in no position to ruin or disclose what happens in Mockingjay Part II, so I won’t. But what I will tell you is this; make sure you have seen Mockingjay Part I. When I labelled myself a “Hunger Games fanatic”, that might have been a slight exaggeration. It turns out I am not a big a fan as I thought. About 5 minutes into the movie, Jonathan and I realised we had missed something, as the movie just wasn’t making sense. Last time we saw Katniss, she had fired an arrow into the arena and she had been rescued by that space ship thingy… so who is this Coin lady? And how does Katniss know her? Soon enough it all made sense why this movie wasn’t making sense. We hadn’t watched the third instalment.
Ooops.
Never mind. My sliders and had arrived and all was good in my world (certainly not Katniss’). These delicious sliders were packed with a patty, bacon and relish, coupled with a side bowl of chips. I can’t actually remember the last time I had a whole bowl of chips to myself. My healthy advice to myself is to not order them in the first place, therefore I often find myself scabbing the scraps of left over chippies off others. It wasn’t until Jonathan whispered to me to “calm down” that I realised I was eating the chips with both hands…in my mouth…at the same time.
Feeling relaxed and totally reclined, I continued to watch Katniss Everdene and Peter what’s-his-name battle it out in their ever-so-difficult and tiring love story. Will they ever find peace, love and happiness? Will this girl ever be able to crack a smile? About three-quarters of our way into the movie, two bite size Ben and Jerry’s ice-cream arrived on our little table. Dating a guy who is a health nut (to say the least), I was given two-options: Chocolate chip or coffee flavoured. Coffee is in my blood and you don’t want to see me without it, however I just can’t do cold coffee. No matter how hot it is. Two minutes later, bloated and lethargic, those chocolate chippies in that BJ mini tub had been demolished, leaving a sad coffee-flavoured tub sitting there to melt.
As this dramatic love-story was drawn to an end, so was our night. As we left the cinemas, we were treated with candy and a friendly good-bye, from the lovely staff at Lux.
