The business of fashion is always an interesting topic. Melbourne Girl headed to Crown bright and early on Friday morning to catch the VAMFF Fashion Industry Forum, presented by Vicinity Centres and media partner ragtrader.
The topic under discussion was “Design your destiny: plan with purpose and captivate your consumer“. The Forum was hosted by Damien Woolnough, and the guest speakers included Yeojin Bae, David Bush, Chris Vincent and Grant Pearce.
They were all inspirational. As most consumers are aware, the whole retail landscape has changed enormously in the last eight years. A lot of this has to do with the internet and changing social media trends.
The Forum addressed these changes, and how retailers and designers can adapt their practises. It was interesting to hear the professionals discuss how they have dealt with the changes.
For example, Yeojin said she uses Instagram as a major selling platform for her label, Yeojin Bae. If people call asking for an item they see on Instagram before it even hits the stores, the company uses that as an indicator that an item is going to be popular – and it gives them extra lead time to produce more for the stores.
There was a lot to take away from the Forum. The Business Breakfast Series is a fantastic way to learn new things and network at the same time. Where else can you see some of the industry greats in person and get to ask them questions?
