It’s not everyday you can say that you helped break not only one, but five Guinness World Records! Over the past 2 years we have watched this young Greek girl from Adelaide grow into a fitness sensation. Kayla Itsines has taken the fitness world by storm and has recently been listed (alongside her boyfriend, Tobi Pearce, on BRW’s 2016 Young Rich List).
Making her millions through Instagram; selling her Bikini Body Guides #BBG and posting transformation photos, this idol of mine is certainly living a life that many dream of.
Twelve months ago she released her SWEAT app, which has been a huge success around the world. In conjunction with the app, she has decided to do another world tour promoting Apple’s number one fitness app of 2016.
Kayla and her team have run more free bootcamps around the world than any other fitness company. Tobi also mentioned on stage at their Melbourne bootcamp, that two years ago they ran their first bootcamp in Bondi, which attracted only a small crowd of 100 people. They now have thousands of people lining up to attend one of their awesome fun-filled bootcamps, full of women (and a few men), trying to get a fit-fix.
In my usual fashion, I got lost. I was in such a hurry I read my GPS map upside down and took a wrong turn, ending up on the other side of the road to Olympic Park. I must have looked like I knew where I was going, because when I turned around, I realised that several girls had followed me down the wrong track. Thankfully the sounds of DJ Tiger Lily could be heard, so me and my new pose followed the sound of the bass until we hit the long queue of hundreds of girls waiting in anticipation to enter.
It was that moment that I realised that the excited faces of these girls, were similar to the faces of my clients, before they do a bootcamp sesh with me… ha ha.
Melbourne was out in full form and decided to welcome Kayla by putting on a 30 degree show. Not ideal conditions for bootcamp, however I would much prefer heat than thunderstorms. After finding a spot on the grass, I rolled out my yoga mat and began to stretch. I was ready for one of her session’s, commonly referred to by her BBG community as ‘Death by Kayla‘.
Kayla decided to kick-off our workout with a bang. We broke five Guinness World Records for the most amount of people doing star-jumps, running on the spot, squats, lunges and sit-ups. After our heroic effort, we jumped straight into one of her ‘infamous’ workouts that get your heart racing and blood pumping in under 30 minutes.
By the end of my sweat-sess, I had not only felt like I had completed a challenging workout, but I had fallen more in love with this very sweet girl, who is not only an inspiration to other fitness professionals, but an icon and role-model to millions of women around the world.
Kayla is doing a book tour, to promote her 28 day healthy eating and lifestyle guide, throughout December and January.
