Top 5 road trips to take from Melbourne
Yarra Valley
Round up your girls and get set to head East (approximately one hour from Melbourne’s CBD), to indulge in everything the Yarra Valley has to offer. I’m talking seriously fresh and delicious local produce, an inspiring art scene and one of Australia’s most scenic regions ready for you to explore.
One of the best things about the Yarra Valley is how close it is to Melbourne. One minute you’re in suburbia, next minute you are surrounded by gorgeous vineyards and rolling green hills. Ideal for exploring all year round, I think it’s best experienced during Autumn, when the air is fresh and leaves are starting to change colour and fall.
Mornington Peninsula
If there’s a road trip destination we recommend for girls like us who love the coastal life in Melbourne, it’s the Mornington Peninsula. Best known for its beautiful beaches and national parks, the Peninsula is also home to a fantastic line up of eateries and local producers, which make it the ideal location to escape to, away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
The Shire is made up of so many beautiful towns including Blairgowrie, Cape Schanck, Dromana, Mornington, Mount Eliza, Point Leo, Portsea, Red Hill and Sorrento, to name just a few of my favourites.
Phillip Island
It’s just a little over an hour and a half to San Remo, the mainland village and gateway to Phillip Island. As soon as you arrive, the views of the ocean all around you will kick your ‘island holiday mode‘ into instant full swing!
Get set for awesome beach vibes. It’s the perfect location for a weekend camping trip or family mid-week escape, with a great assortment of cafes and restaurants and lots of fun things to do and see (or relax and do nothing… which is heavenly).
Ballarat
If you are interested in Australia’s vast history, then Ballarat is the town for you. Located on the Yarrowee River, approximately 105 kilometres from Melbourne, it’s the perfect place to escape to with the family.
With a stunning selection of things to see and do, as well as endless (delicious) eating venues, it’s a culturally rich getaway that every Melbourne Girl needs to put on their bucket list.
Bendigo
Bendigo is truly is one of Victoria’s gems and offers something for everybody. From travelling with little ones, to wining and dining, and cultural and arts experiences – we really couldn’t recommend a visit enough when you’re planning your next roadtrip.
We love the ‘small town’ friendliness waiting to be experienced, as well as the incredible standard of dining, entertainment, arts and shopping that’s available.
